Airport: Washington National (DCA)

Although there are several airports in the area, we recommend flying into National (DCA) which is just across the river and a quick metro ride from downtown DC.

Getting Around

Walk. Uber. Metro.

Parking and traffic in DC are nightmares so forgo the rental car if you can. The good news is that DC is very walkable and you will be able to reach all of the can’t-miss DC landmarks on foot or by metro. Uber and Lyft are also readily available.

  • The Chef of the Japanese-Spanish fusion Cranes greeted Brendon’s mom when he found out she lived in his home country of Spain
  • Bresca is an avant-garde French bistro and a favorite date spot for Libby & Brendon

Activities

The Sofitel Hotel is near all DC’s favorite attractions.

  • We recommend renting bicycles on the Uber or Lyft app to tour the National Mall’s museums and monuments. Brendon’s favorite museum is the National History Museum and Libby’s favorite is the Air & Space Museum.
  • The war memorials, especially the Korean War Memorial, have special meaning to Brendon.
  • There are also the Washington DC Hop-on Hop-off Buses with The Sightseeing Flex Passes.
  • You can also visit the U.S. Capitol, Brendon’s daytime stopping grounds for many years. Advance reservations are required for a tour. Visit the “Schedule a Tour” page to select a day/time.
  • Also, you can see Brendon’s beloved Corps in action at the Sunset Parade at the Marine Corps War Memorial on Tuesday evenings at 7:00 or the Evening Parade, held every Friday evening during the summer at 8:45.  These parades have become a universal symbol of the professionalism, discipline, and Esprit de Corps of the United States Marines (the finest fighting force in the world).
